BJP MLA Kunwar Singh Tekam acquitted in code of conduct violation case

Jabalpur. Jabalpur’s MP-MLA special court has honorably acquitted BJP MLA Kunwar Singh Tekam in the case of code of conduct violation and luring voters. This matter was related to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Special Judicial Magistrate D.P. Sutrakar, in his 14-page judgment, said the prosecution had completely failed to prove the charges. The court clarified that the mobile phone with which the alleged video was claimed to have been made was broken and forensic examination of the video could not be done, due to which its authenticity could not be proved.

In fact, complainant Pradeep Singh alias Deepu had alleged that on April 23, 2019, during a street meeting in village Dhanauli of Sidhi district, MLA Kunwar Singh Tekam, while seeking votes in support of the BJP candidate, had announced to install five hand pumps from the MLA’s fund, which is a violation of the Model Code of Conduct.

A case was registered against the MLA under sections 171 (inducing) and 188 (disobedience to administrative orders) of the Indian Penal Code. However, due to lack of evidence, the court acquitted the MLA, giving him the benefit of doubt. After the verdict, Kunwar Singh Tekam called it a case motivated by political malice and said that he was implicated in false allegations and the video was tampered. After this decision of the court, discussions have intensified in political circles.
