Bank Holidays January 2026: The last month of the year, December, is going to end in a few days. After this the new year will begin. Banks will remain closed for 16 days in January 2026. Apart from public holidays, this also includes Sunday and second-fourth Saturday. There will be a Republic Day holiday on 26th January. The fourth is Saturday on January 24 and Sunday on January 25. In such a situation, people will also get a long weekend to travel or plan a family outing. Apart from regular weekend closing, banks will remain closed due to public holidays in many states.

The Reserve Bank of India has divided bank holidays into 3 categories. First-Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act. Second-Holiday under the Negotiable Act. Third-Real Time Gross Settlement Holiday. Holidays are falling in all three categories next month. In such a situation, if you have any important work related to the bank, you will have to keep the holiday calendar of RBI in mind.

When and for what reasons will banks remain closed?

1 January- Banks will remain closed in Aizawl, Chennai, Gangtok, Imphal, Itanagar, Kohima, Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai and Shillong on New Year’s Day.
2 January- Banks will remain closed in Aizawl, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram on New Year Celebration/Mannat Jayanti.
3 January- All banks will remain closed in Lucknow on the birthday of Hazrat Ali.
4th January- There will be a holiday on Sunday in all the banks of the country.
10th January-There will be no work in all banks on second Saturday.
11th January- There will be Sunday holiday in all banks.
12th January- All banks in Kolkata will remain closed on Vivekananda Jayanti.
14 January- Banks will remain closed in Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati and Itanagar on the occasion of Makar Sankranti/Magh Bihu.
15th January- There will be no work in banks in Bengaluru, Chennai, Gangtok, Hyderabad and Vijayawada on the occasion of Uttarayan Punyakal/Pongal/Maghe Sankranti/Makar Sankranti.
16 January- All banks in Chennai will remain closed on Thiruvallupur Day.
17 January- There will be no work in all banks of Chennai on the occasion of Uzhavar Thirunal.
18th January- There will be a Sunday holiday in all the banks of the country.
23 January- All banks will remain closed in Agartala, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and some cities of UP on Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s birth anniversary/Saraswati Puja/Basant Panchami.
24th January- There will be a holiday on fourth Saturday in all the banks of the country.
25th January- There will be a holiday on Sunday in all the banks of the country.
26 January- All banks in the country will remain closed on the occasion of Republic Day.

Online and phone banking will remain operational

You can transact money or do other work through online banking and ATM despite bank holidays. These facilities will not be affected by bank holidays.

Trading in stock market will be closed for 9 days

There will be no trading in the stock market for 9 days in January. Trading in the stock market will remain closed on 4 Sundays and 4 Saturdays as well as on Republic Day on 26 January.

14 September- There will be closing in the stock market on Ganesh Chaturthi.
2 October- There will be no work in the stock market on Gandhi Jayanti.
20 October- Stock markets will remain closed on Dussehra.
10 November- There will be no trading on Diwali.
24th November- Stock markets will remain closed on Prakash Parv.
25 December- Stock markets will remain closed on Christmas.
