Delhi’s Yamuna Riverfront now even more vibrant, social and cultural programs now possible in Asita Park, DDA approves booking
The lush green lawns of Asita Park located near ITO, Delhi will no longer be limited to just strolling. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has allowed select lawns of the park to be booked for organizing social and cultural events. After this, common people and organizations will be able to organize programs here under the prescribed conditions. This step has been taken under the supervision of Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, to ensure better utilization of public places.
The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has made several lawns of Asita Park available for public use. The daily rent for these lawns has been fixed depending on their area and usage, which starts from Rs 40 thousand and goes up to Rs 3.30 lakh. Organizers can also book one or more venues as per their requirement.
Every activity will be done with environmental protection
A total of three days will be given to the organizers during booking to erect and remove the eco-friendly tent structure. The circular lawn can be booked for a maximum of five days. The cleaning fee will be charged at the rate of Rs 2.75 per square metre, and all activities will be conducted as per environmental and regulatory safety standards so that there is no harm to the ecological nature of the Yamuna River. This system will be implemented as per the guidelines of the National Green Tribunal and the concerned courts.
Basic facilities including parking will be available
Along with lawn booking, the organizers will also be provided parking facility for 40 vehicles. If more than one place is booked, the charges will increase. Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has said that special monitoring will be maintained on cleanliness and security arrangements during the programs.
This area was once a victim of encroachment
The area where Asita Park has been developed was earlier filled with encroachment and filth, which was continuously polluting the Yamuna River. This project, spread over about 197 hectares near Laxmi Nagar in East Delhi, is being considered an important initiative towards environmental improvement of Yamuna and surrounding plains.
According to Delhi Development Authority (DDA) officials, at present lawn booking can be done only through offline mode. In winter, Asita Park will remain open from 5:30 am to 9 pm. A fee of Rs 50 has been fixed for entry into the park. Visitors can easily reach the park via bus and auto apart from ITO or Laxmi Nagar metro station.
