Cabinet clears Rs 12,015 crore Delhi Metro expansion under Phase-VA

The Union Cabinet has approved the Delhi Metro Railway Project Phase-VA with an outlay of Rs 12,015 crore, marking a major push towards expanding urban mass transit infrastructure in the national capital.

According to the decision, the new phase will add fresh corridors to the Delhi Metro network, taking the overall operational length beyond 400 kilometres once completed. The expansion is aimed at improving last-mile connectivity, reducing traffic congestion, and supporting the growing commuter demand across Delhi and the National Capital Region.

The Phase-VA project will be implemented by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and is expected to strengthen high-density travel corridors while improving integration with existing metro lines. The government said the expansion aligns with its broader objective of promoting sustainable and efficient public transport systems in large urban centres.

With this approval, Delhi Metro continues to remain one of the largest metro rail networks in the world, playing a critical role in urban mobility, pollution reduction, and economic activity in the region.
