Reason for not getting married?
According to media reports, his family members said that Atal Bihari Vajpayee had a strong passion for national service from childhood. He considered the whole country as his family and his home. About their marriage, it is said that Atalji became so busy with national service that he never got the chance to marry. In an interview, he himself said that he was so engrossed in the responsibilities of the country and millions of people that he never had time for marriage.

…it was not free from love
According to media reports, Atal Bihari Vajpayee may not have married, but he was not completely devoid of love. While studying at Victoria College in Gwalior in the 1940s, he had a girlfriend named Rajkumari Kaul. Atalji and Rajkumari were good friends and eventually their friendship turned into love. Veteran journalist Kuldeep Nayyar has also mentioned this in his book.

But the love story remained incomplete
The book states that Atalji wrote a letter expressing his love to Rajkumari Kaul, but received no response. Waiting for a response, Atalji did not love anyone afterwards. He also avoided getting married further. Later, he became fully involved in politics, while Rajkumari Kaul’s father got her married to Professor Brij Narayan Kaul.
