Will Ravi Shastri be England’s new coach? England legend advises ECB after Ashes defeat
The England team had a disappointing performance in the Ashes series. Australia defeated England in the first three matches to win the series. After the third match, England’s team was criticized a lot. At the same time, England’s head coach Brendon McCullum was also trolled. After another disappointing Ashes tour in Australia, the pressure is mounting on England head coach Brendon McCullum. Questions are constantly being raised about them.
Former England spinner Monty Panesar has suggested Ravi Shastri to replace Brendon McCullum as the head coach. According to Monty Panesar, Ravi Shastri could be a viable option as England’s head coach, as he has the mentality to beat Australia in Australia. After England lost the Ashes series in 11 days and trailed 0-3 with two Tests remaining, Panesar believes a change in senior leadership is necessary. He believes that Ravi Shastri is the perfect fit to be England’s head coach.

Speaking on journalist Ravi Bisht’s YouTube channel, Panesar said England need a coach who knows how to beat Australia in their own conditions, strategically and mentally. “You have to think, who knows the right way to beat Australia? How to exploit Australia’s mental, physical and strategic weaknesses? I think Ravi Shastri should be the next head coach of England,” Panesar said.
Panesar’s suggestion to appoint Ravi Shastri as England’s head coach is purely based on his record. Under Shastri’s leadership, India won consecutive Border-Gavaskar trophies in Australia. India won the series for the first time during Shastri’s tenure in 2018-19. Under the coaching of Ravi Shastri, India also won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2020-21.
McCullum was appointed England’s head coach in May 2022 after a 4–0 Ashes series defeat against Australia. After taking charge, McCullum made initial changes to the team, including captain Ben Stokes, which initially showed positive results. Under McCullum, England won 10 of their first 11 Tests, but the momentum then slowed. England lost 16 of their next 33 matches.
