Kandhamal, 25 December. After the elimination of top Naxalite commander Madvi Hidma, security forces got another major success when they killed six Naxalites, including top Naxalite leader Ganesh Uike, carrying a bounty of Rs 1.1 crore, in a major encounter in Odisha’s Kandhamal district on Thursday morning. Two women cadres were also included in these.
Amit Shah told about the milestone
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in one of his posts on Twitter, termed this success as a milestone in the direction of Naxal-free India. He said – ‘In a major operation in Kandhamal, Odisha, six Naxalites including Central Committee member Ganesh Uike have been killed. With this huge success, Naxalism is on the way to be completely eradicated from Odisha. We are determined to eliminate Naxalism before March 31, 2026.
There was a reward of Rs 1.1 crore on Ganesh Uike.
Meanwhile, Odisha Police’s Naxal Operation DIG Akhileshwar Singh said that joint teams of Odisha’s Special Operation Group (SOG), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Border Security Force (BSF) carried out this operation. He said that the Naxal team had an encounter with 69-year-old Ganesh Uike, a member of the CPI (Maoist) Central Committee, in the forests of Rampa under Chakpad police station on the border of Kandhamal and Ganjam districts. Ganesh Uike had a reward of Rs 1.1 crore. He was working as the head of a banned organization in Odisha.

An interesting fact is that Ganesh Uike, a resident of Pullemala village of Chendur mandal in Nalgonda district of Telangana, had assumed many aliases. He was also known as Pakka Hanumantu, Rajesh Tiwari, Chamru and Rupa. The police officer said that two female Naxalites were also killed in the encounter. Till the time of writing the news, other Naxalites could not be identified. This is being seen as a big and unprecedented success for the security forces who are working with full force to eliminate Naxalism from the country.

Odisha DGP Yogesh Bahadur Khurana said, ‘A major anti-Naxal joint operation is going on on the border of Ganjam district. The success of killing six Naxalites including Central Committee member Ganesh Uike was achieved on Thursday morning. Ganesh Uike was leading all Naxalite operations in Odisha. The security forces have eliminated him today. I believe that this has broken the back of Naxalism in Odisha.
Big success in the direction of ending Naxalism
The officer further said that Odisha Police wants to achieve the deadline of March 2026 set by Union Home Minister Amit Shah to end Naxalism as soon as possible. Odisha Police is working diligently for this in collaboration with the security forces. After Hidma, now the killing of Ganesh Uike will have a wider impact. This will bring a big change towards the end of Naxalism not only in Odisha but also in other states.
