FIR against Aam Aadmi Party leaders in Delhi

Desk: Delhi Police has registered an FIR against three prominent leaders of Aam Aadmi Party for hurting religious sentiments. The names of senior party leaders Saurabh Bhardwaj, Sanjeev Jha, and Adil Ahmed Khan are included in this case. It is alleged that he portrayed Santa Claus, the holy symbol of the Christian community, in a derogatory manner. This FIR has been registered on the basis of the complaint of advocate Khushboo George.

Derogatory portrayal of Santa Claus in video

According to the complaint, the controversy arose due to a video shared from the official social media accounts of these leaders on December 17 and 18, 2025. The video was part of a political skit held in Connaught Place, Delhi, in which Santa Claus was shown unconscious without clothes. The complainant claims that in this video Santa Claus has been presented as a tool to convey a political message.

The video showing Santa Claus giving fake CPR (life saving procedure) has been considered a deep blow to the Christian society. This amounts to mocking the sanctity of a religious and cultural symbol. In particular, the broadcast of such videos during the holy time of Advent represents an affront to the Christian faith.

Delhi Police action

Considering the seriousness of this matter, Delhi Police has registered an FIR under Section 302 of the Indian Justice Code (BNS). Police say that public insult of any religious symbol is a crime. The police have clarified that especially in cases like this, hurting religious sentiments and disturbing public order is not acceptable. At present, digital evidence and social media posts are being examined.
