New Delhi: Indian women’s cricket team has created history by winning the ODI series against England 2-1. Team India won the third ODI match played at Chester-le-Street by 13 runs. This is the first time that the Indian women’s team has won both limited overs series on the same tour of England. Before the ODI series, the Indian team won the five-match T20 series against England 3-2. Apart from England, the Indian women’s team has achieved this feat against three countries on foreign soil.
India won the ODI series 2-1 and T20 series 3-1 against South Africa in 2018. In the same year, Team India won the ODI series 2-1 and T20 series 4-0 against Sri Lanka. In 2019, the Indian women’s team won the ODI series 2–1 against West Indies. At the same time, they clean swept the T20 series 5-0. India won the T20 series against Sri Lanka 2-1 in 2022, then clean swept the ODI series 3-0 on their soil.
Talking about this match, the Indian team, batting first after winning the toss, scored 318 runs losing five wickets with the help of captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s century. Pratika Rawal and Smriti Mandhana gave a great start to the team. There was a partnership of 64 runs between the two. Pratika returned to the pavilion after scoring 26 runs, while Smriti Mandhana returned to the pavilion after scoring 45 runs. After returning to the opener pavilion, the captain along with Harleen Deol scored 81 runs for the third wicket. Deole scored 45 runs in 65 balls. Harmanpreet Kaur along with Jemimah Rodriguez added 110 runs for the fourth wicket and took India to a huge score. Jemima added 50 runs to the team’s account, while Cowre scored 102 runs in 84 balls with the help of 14 fours.
From the opposing team, Lauren Bell, Lauren Filer, Charlie Dean, Sophie Ecclestone and Lynsey Smythe took one wicket each. In response, England was all out for 305 runs in 49.5 overs. The team had lost the wickets of both the openers with the score of eight runs. From here, Emma Lamb along with captain Natalia-Siver-Brunt boosted the team’s hopes by adding 162 runs for the third wicket. Lamb scored 68 runs in 81 balls, while Brunt scored 98 runs in 105 balls with 11 fours. Apart from this, Alice Richards scored 44 runs, while Sophia Dunkley scored 34 runs, but could not lead the team to victory. For India, Kranti Gowde took the maximum of 6 wickets in 52 balls, while Shri Charani took 2 wickets. Apart from this, Deepti Sharma got 1 wicket.
