Bangladesh Government Breaks Silence After Murder of Hindu Youth, Says Something Significant

New Delhi: Incidents of violence against minorities in Bangladesh are showing no signs of abating. A few days ago, Deepu Chandra Das, a member of the Hindu community, was brutally murdered by a mob of jihadists who dragged him and then set him on fire. This horrific and heinous crime has shocked the world.

Now, another incident of a Hindu man being murdered has come to light. According to reports, 29-year-old Amrit Mandal was murdered and his body dumped in the Pangsha sub-district of Rajbari on Wednesday night at around 11 pm. The location of the murder is about three hours away from Dhaka.

Following the increasing atrocities against Hindus, the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus has finally broken its silence. The government claimed that the incident was not related to communalism.

What the Bangladesh Government Said

The Muhammad Yunus government has finally spoken out regarding the atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh. The government said that it has taken note of the “misleading information” being spread about this tragic murder on social media and by some news outlets.

The statement said, “According to police information and initial investigations, it is clear that this incident is not in any way related to communal violence. It resulted from a violent situation stemming from extortion and criminal activities.”

The government stated that the deceased, Amrit Mandal alias Samrat, was a listed top criminal who had come to the area with the intention of collecting extortion money. He was killed during a clash with angry residents.

This incident comes at a time when Tarique Rahman, a prominent politician aspiring to become Prime Minister, has returned to Bangladesh after ending his 17-year self-imposed exile. He has promised to provide security and justice if his party wins the elections next year.

In a statement, the government said it has taken note of the spread of what it termed “misleading information” on social media and by certain news outlets regarding the tragic killing. “According to police information and preliminary investigations, it is clearly evident that the incident is in no way related to communal violence. Rather, it arose from a violent situation stemming from extortion and criminal activities. The deceased, Amrit Mondal alias Samrat, was a listed top criminal who had entered the area with the intent of collecting extortion money. At one stage, he lost his life during a clash with agitated residents,” the statement said.

The incident comes as aspiring prime minister and political heavyweight Tarique Rahman returned to Bangladesh, ending 17 years in self-imposed exile with a promise to deliver safety and justice if his party wins next year’s elections.
