Vaibhav Suryavanshi felicitated with ‘Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar’ by President Murmu – Watch

New Delhi: Young Indian sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi was felicitated by President Droupadi Murmu on Friday with the ‘Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar’. The 14-year-old batter from Bihar was recognized for his sensational batting performances for Indian in the age-group cricket and also in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Suryavanshi represents the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the cash-rich league and has scripted numerous records in the last season which have established himself as one of most flamboyant Indian batters. The teen prodigy scripted history last year in 2024 by becoming the youngest player to earn an IPL contract after he was bought by the Royals for a massive prize of Rs 1.1 crore.

How Vaibhav got his IPL contract?

Ahead of his maiden appearance in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the 14-year-old had smashed a century in just 58 balls for India a four-day game against Australia under-19. He had also featured in the ACC Under-19 Asia Cup in 2024, scoring 176 runs which included with two half-centuries. He made his IPL debut for the Royals against Lucknow Super Giants, replacing injured captain Sanju Samson.

Making an early impression in his first match, he smashed 34 runs in just 20 balls clubbed with couple of big shots. In just seven matches during the season of his IPL debut, the Bihar batter scored 252 runs with an impressive strike rate of over 200 which caught the eyes of one and all. He also smashed the fastest IPL century by an Indian, completing the milestone in just 35 balls.

After the culmination of the cash-rich league, he again scripted a record smashing the fastest century in U19 ODI format during the India U19 team’s tour of England. His 78-ball 143-run knock which left everyone impressed was studded with 13 fours and 10 sixes which cemented his place as a hard-hitting batter.
