Sitapur BLO Suicide Case: On Friday, 30-year-old BLO Umesh committed suicide by hanging himself in his rented room in Atria town of Sitapur district of Uttar Pradesh. Umesh was an instructor at Dariyapur Pre-Secondary School and was currently responsible for Special Intensive Revision (SIR). When his room did not open for a long time, the police cut the iron door and took out the body. According to family members, he was upset due to recent BLO duty and work pressure. Police have started investigation by sending the body for post-mortem.
According to the news agency report, Atria police station in-charge Rakesh Kumar Gupta said that Umesh lived alone in Atria town. At the time of the incident, the iron door of the house was closed from inside. When the police broke the door, Umesh’s body was found hanging from the hook. Police say that after completing the initial legal formalities, the case is being investigated from every angle. However, the exact reason for suicide is yet to be clear.
Political turmoil over BLO’s death
The relatives of the deceased have raised the issue of work pressure, while Uttar Pradesh The issue of deaths and suicides of BLOs has now taken on a political colour. Opposition parties like Congress, Samajwadi Party and BSP have cornered the government on this issue. However, the administration has been rejecting these allegations. This is not the first incident of death of a BLO in the state during the ongoing SIR exercise since November, raising questions over the methodology.

Police engaged in investigation of the incident
SHO said that Umesh was alone in his room at the time of the incident. When the door did not open for a long time, the police was informed. Police reached the spot and tried to open the door, but the iron door could not open as it was locked from inside, so it was cut with a cutter. Umesh’s body was found hanging inside the room. After taking down the body and completing the necessary legal action, the police sent it to the district headquarters for post-mortem.
