Tariq criticized the policies of the Yunus government which are trying to erase the country’s history and memories of the freedom struggle. Tarique Rahman made it clear that his aim is not only to form an elected government but also to melt the ice in relations with neighboring countries like India.
Yunus’s problems increased and BNP’s strength

Seeing the increasing influence of Tariq Rehman, Jamaat-e-Islami and the National Citizen Party (NCP), which emerged from the student movement, are now preparing to join hands. According to sources, NCP had demanded 50 seats from Jamaat, but at present a consensus seems to be emerging on 30 seats.
There is strong opposition to this alliance within the NCP and many senior party leaders have called it a ‘defeat of youth politics’. Stating that he has resigned. Jamaat is now looking for a face who can re-establish it in mainstream politics.

Arithmetic of February 12 election
Direct elections are to be held for 300 seats in Bangladesh’s 350-member Parliament, where 151 seats are required for majority. The return of Tariq Rehman has created problems for independent candidates and small parties.
Now instead of the contest being triangular, it seems to be BNP versus other alliances. In this new coalition politics, it will be interesting to see whether the young voters accept this mismatched NCP-Jamaat duo or Tariq Rahman’s ‘Secure Bangladesh’ Let’s seal the vision.
