Were going to Darbhanga, but reached Kolkata…Indigo flight diverted after bad weather, passengers created ruckus at the airport.

Patna: Due to bad weather conditions in Darbhanga, Bihar, passengers had to face a lot of inconvenience when the Indigo Airlines flight coming from Hyderabad to Darbhanga was diverted midway to Kolkata. This sudden decision caused resentment among the passengers on board the plane and the situation became tense for some time.

The flight had left from Hyderabad to Darbhanga

According to the information, this Indigo flight had left from Hyderabad for Darbhanga on time. Most of the passengers were residents of Darbhanga and surrounding districts of Bihar, who were traveling for work, studies or personal reasons. Everything was normal during the flight, but the weather suddenly deteriorated near Darbhanga airport.

Diversion decision taken due to bad weather

Safe landing of the aircraft was not possible due to strong wind and poor visibility in Darbhanga. In such a situation, giving priority to safety, the pilot decided to divert the flight towards Kolkata Airport. As soon as the plane landed in Kolkata, the passengers were told that due to weather, further flight was not possible at the moment.

Protest started inside the plane itself

As soon as this information was given to the passengers, dissatisfaction was seen inside the plane itself. The passengers said that they had booked tickets for Darbhanga and were dropped at Kolkata without any alternative arrangement. Many passengers questioned the crew members and demanded to be taken to Darbhanga.

Uproar at Kolkata Airport

After deboarding the plane, the anger of the passengers increased further. Darbhanga bound passengers started raising slogans against IndiGo at Kolkata airport. The passengers alleged that neither clear information was given by the airline nor any concrete solution was given regarding the further journey. Some passengers also demanded full refund of the ticket amount.

increased problems for passengers

Passengers said that due to being disembarked in Kolkata, they may have to bear additional expenses for accommodation, food and onward journey. The families of many passengers were waiting for them in Darbhanga. Due to this sudden change, elderly passengers, children and women had to suffer a lot.

Allegation of not providing information on airline

Passengers also alleged that Indigo did not share information regarding the situation properly. Neither the alternative flight was clearly announced nor was it told what further arrangements would be made. Due to this, the displeasure of the passengers increased further.

Reason given was bad weather

However, the airline has cited bad weather as the reason for diverting the flight. As per aviation rules, safety of passengers is of paramount importance and diversion in case of bad weather is considered a normal procedure. Despite this, passengers say that the airline should have shown better management and communication.

The situation gradually became normal

After some time, the airport administration and Indigo employees tried to pacify the passengers. At present it is not clear what alternative arrangements were given to the passengers for their onward journey. This incident once again raises the question of how big a responsibility it is for airlines to provide correct information and assistance to passengers in emergency situations.
