Big decision of CM Nitish, great news for students

Patna. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has taken a big step to strengthen higher education in the state. In the first high-level meeting of the newly formed Higher Education Department, the Chief Minister agreed to implement the proposed action plans expeditiously. Its objective is to increase the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) of higher education in the state and provide better education opportunities to the students.

New degree colleges in 360 blocks

At present, out of total 534 blocks of Bihar, degree colleges are running only in 174 blocks. The state government has planned to establish degree colleges with modern facilities in each of the remaining 360 blocks. A budget of more than Rs 2000 crore has been earmarked for this, which includes building construction, educational resources and development of infrastructure.

Goals and strategies in higher education

The central government has set a target of increasing the country’s GER to 50 percent by the year 2035. Accordingly, the aim of the Bihar government is to increase the GER in the state from the current 20 percent to 40 percent. To achieve this goal, along with the establishment of new colleges, old reputed educational institutions will be developed as ‘Centers of Excellence’.

New Education Initiative: Education City and Coaching Institute

A new education city will be built to organize coaching institutes in the state and create a holistic education environment for the students. This is also a concrete step towards governance and quality control of coaching institutes. Apart from this, a new coaching policy will be implemented in January, which will ensure effective monitoring of the coaching industry.
