Naveen Waqar shares views on playing a Hindu woman in Geo
Popular Pakistani actress and television host Naveen Waqar has shared her thoughts on portraying a Hindu woman in Geo TV’s hit drama serial Case No. 9, a role that has earned her widespread appreciation from viewers.
Naveen Waqar, who rose to fame with her memorable role as Sara in the blockbuster drama Humsafar, is currently appearing as Manisha in Case No. 9. The drama has been gaining rapid popularity, and her performance has been praised for its depth and realism.
Recently, the actress appeared as a guest on a magazine podcast, where she spoke in detail about her role in Case No. 9 and the significance of representing minority communities on screen.
Talking about the inclusion of Manisha and Rohit in the storyline, Naveen Waqar said these characters were added because Hindu citizens are also part of Pakistani society, yet they are rarely represented in mainstream dramas. She emphasized that their presence is important and that it is necessary to show that they are an integral part of the social fabric.
She further stated that the issue of blasphemy highlighted in the drama is a reality in society. Pakistan is home to different communities, and their stories should be brought to the forefront. Naveen Waqar revealed that she initially faced objections for accepting the role, but she believed it was important to tell such stories responsibly.
Speaking specifically about her character Manisha, the actress clarified that it was not portrayed as a stereotypical Hindu woman constantly wearing sindoor or a saree. She explained that people she personally knows only dress that way during festivals or at home. Naveen said she portrayed the character based on what she has observed in Pakistan and performed the role with complete responsibility. She added that she had to be extremely careful to ensure that no community was hurt, and she is grateful that the Hindu community has responded very positively to her portrayal.
Elaborating further, Naveen Waqar described Manisha as a strong and principled woman. She said Manisha cannot live with someone who witnesses a crime and remains silent. The character does not tolerate injustice, speaks the truth, and takes action. She cannot ignore her husband’s flaws or stay quiet about incidents that impact many lives.
Naveen Waqar concluded by saying that she particularly appreciates the fact that all female characters in Case No. 9 are shown as strong, influential, and empowered, making the drama both socially relevant and impactful.
