Before the elections, uncle and nephew united, protest started in NCP, this leader left Sharad Pawar and joined Congress

Mumbai : The name of Pawar family has always been influential in the politics of Maharashtra and once again this family is in the headlines. This time the reason is the decision of both factions of the Nationalist Congress Party to contest the Pune Municipal Corporation elections together. This coordination between NCP led by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and NCP of Sharad Pawar faction is being considered as a big step towards reconciliation in the Pawar family. But this decision has also given rise to dissatisfaction within the Sharad Pawar group.

There was discussion regarding seat distribution
Pune Municipal Corporation elections have always been important in the politics of Maharashtra. Recently, leaders of both the NCP factions sat and discussed seat sharing. The objective of this meeting was to fight the elections with a common strategy against BJP and other parties. It is believed that at the local level, there is a mixed reaction among the workers of both the groups regarding this alliance.

Prashant Jagtap’s resignation
The biggest blow to this alliance came to the Sharad Pawar faction when former Pune mayor and city unit president Prashant Jagtap decided to leave the party. Jagtap clarified that he is not in favor of alliance with Ajit Pawar group. According to him, politics should be done without compromising ideology. Due to this disagreement, he said goodbye to NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar).

Prashant Jagtap joins Congress
Prashant Jagtap took membership of Congress on Friday in the presence of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee President Harshvardhan Sapkal. Along with him, many officials and workers of Sharad Pawar faction from Pune also joined Congress. Congress has described this development as a sign of strength for the party before the upcoming municipal elections.

Reaction of Congress leaders
Congress State President Harshvardhan Sapkal, welcoming Jagtap, said that Congress is a party of ideological struggle and represents the ideology of Shivaji Maharaj, Shahu Maharaj, Mahatma Phule and Dr. Ambedkar. He sarcastically said that in today’s times many people “salute the rising sun”, but Prashant Jagtap has chosen Congress on ideological basis.

Congress legislature party leader Vijay Wadettiwar also gave a statement on this occasion and said that Jagtap refused to side with the communal forces and did not compromise on his principles. He said that if such leaders continue to stand with Congress, the political scenario of 2029 can change completely.

Prashant Jagtap’s side
After joining Congress, Prashant Jagtap said that Congress is a 135 year old organization, whose ideological foundation is very strong. He made it clear that his fight is against casteism and corruption and at present only Congress can give an effective challenge to BJP. He bluntly said that no compromise is possible with ideology.

Impact on Maharashtra politics
The coming together of both factions of NCP and the resignations in protest have made it clear that bigger changes can be seen in the politics of Maharashtra in the coming times. In important urban areas like Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, both this alliance and break can affect the equations. It will be interesting to see in what direction this political development takes the upcoming municipal elections and the politics of 2029.
