Date of announcement of ODI team fixed! The card may open on 3-4 January

The schedule of the Indian team is going to be very busy before the T20 World Cup to be held against New Zealand. Before this big tournament, a five-match T20 series is to be played between India and New Zealand, for which the team is considered almost final. However, before this T20 series, a three-match ODI series will also be organized between the two teams.

This ODI series will start from January 11, while T20 matches will start after this. The official announcement of the Indian team will be made in the first week of January.

According to sources, the important meeting of the selection committee will be held through online medium, in which Shiv Sundar Das, Ajay Ratra, RP Singh and Pragyan Ojha will participate along with Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar. In this meeting, the Indian team for the ODI and T20 series will be finalized. If reports are to be believed, the team can be announced on January 3 or 4.

Selectors have their eyes on two big names

The most discussion in this selection process is about Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer. Both the players were not part of the recent T20 World Cup squad and were also out of the last series against South Africa due to injury. Shubman Gill is now said to be completely fit. Recently he was seen practicing at the PCA Stadium in Mohali during the Vijay Hazare Trophy, indicating that he is available for selection. It is believed that the responsibility of captaincy in the ODI series can also be handed over to Gill’s shoulders.

Doubt over Shreyas Iyer’s fitness

The picture regarding the return of Shreyas Iyer is not completely clear yet. He has joined BCCI at the Center of Excellence in Bengaluru and is also practicing in net sessions. However, it is not clear whether he is completely match fit or not. There is no official confirmation yet regarding Yo-Yo test and medical clearance. The selectors are waiting for his fitness report in the next few days, only after which the final decision on his selection will be taken.

ODI series schedule

The first ODI match between India and New Zealand will be played on January 11 in Vadodara. The second ODI will be held in Rajkot on 14 January, while the third and final match will be played in Indore on 18 January. This ODI series is being considered very important in terms of preparations for the T20 World Cup, where there will be an opportunity to test the team combination and fitness of the players.
