Mixed signals at Old Trafford: Amorim backs Mainoo publicly as January move on the run

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has delivered a strong vote of confidence in young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, insisting the academy graduate represents the future of the club amid growing speculation over his role in the squad.

Speaking after recent developments at Old Trafford, Amorim made it clear that Mainoo remains a crucial part of United’s long-term plans, despite the teenager facing stiff competition for minutes this season. The Portuguese coach urged patience, highlighting how quickly situations can change in football.

“I’m sure Kobbie just needs to wait for his chance and everything can change in football in two or three days,” Amorim said, underlining his belief in the midfielder’s ability and mentality.

Mainoo has already shown flashes of his immense potential with composed performances in midfield, drawing praise for his maturity, ball control, and tactical intelligence well beyond his age.

However, with United navigating squad depth issues and potential transfer activity, questions have arisen about whether the club could consider loaning him out.

Aamorim dismissed such concerns, suggesting that United’s current squad situation makes Mainoo difficult to let go. “If we are not getting someone, it’s hard to let Mainoo leave. We are short with something that can happen here, and he can cover two positions in midfield,” he added.
