Gill on intense practice after T20 WC snub – Tezzbuzz
Shubman Gill has turned his attention back to rigorous batting practice after being left out of India’s 15-member squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, which India is co-hosting with Sri Lanka. The right-handed batter, who was previously named vice-captain in the T20 setup, has been working hard at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali, honing his technique amid his exclusion from India’s T20 plans.
Gill’s omission from the T20 World Cup squad and the accompanying series against New Zealand followed a run of modest performances in the format, with selectors opting for other combinations for the home tournament. Despite this setback, he remains in the picture for India’s three-match ODI series against New Zealand, scheduled from January 11 to 18, where he continues to be a significant part of the 50-over setup.
In addition to his national commitments, Gill has pledged to turn out for Punjab in the Vijay Hazare Trophy to maintain match readiness. Although he was named in the state’s squad, he did not feature in their recent win over Maharashtra, with Punjab preparing next for their clash against Chhattisgarh.
As he channels his energy into training and domestic cricket, Gill aims to use the break from T20 duties to refine his game and make a strong case for future selections across formats.
