India communicates with US on delay in H-1B visa appointments

India expressed concern to the US over delays and difficulties in H-1B visa appointments. The Ministry of External Affairs said that this is impacting the family and educational lives of citizens and dialogue is on for a solution.

New Delhi: The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has expressed serious concern to the US authorities regarding the delays and difficulties in H-1B visa appointments. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal told a press conference on Friday that the Indian government has received complaints from several Indian citizens who are facing problems in delaying or rescheduling visa appointments. He said that this issue is serious for the Indian government and active talks are going on with the American side to resolve it.

Indian citizens are facing difficulties

Randhir Jaiswal said that many people are stranded for a long time due to delay in visa appointments. This has adversely affected their family life and children’s education. He clarified that the Indian government is looking at this situation seriously and is trying to find a solution in collaboration with US officials. The spokesperson also said that settlement of visa-related matters falls under the sovereignty of any country, but India is continuously communicating to minimize the troubles of the citizens.

Conversations held with American officials

The Ministry of External Affairs said that India has raised its concerns with US officials in both New Delhi and Washington DC. India said citizens are facing economic, social and educational hardships due to disruptions in scheduling and rescheduling of consular visits. Along with this, the Ministry also reminded the American side that it is necessary to resolve this issue quickly so that Indian citizens do not get affected in both their work and family.

Recent initiatives of the US government

Randhir Jaiswal said that the US government has changed its review process for H-1B visa applicants from December 15. The change covers temporary H-1B visas for specific occupations and dependents covered under the H4 category. The spokesperson said this change applies to citizens of all countries globally and will help simplify the process.

India’s active role

The Ministry of External Affairs said that India is actively engaged with the US authorities to safeguard the interests of the citizens and mitigate their hardships. Randhir Jaiswal clarified that India is constantly ensuring that Indian citizens do not face any difficulties due to delays in the H-1B visa process. He said that India is doing everything possible under its responsibility so that the problem is resolved quickly and citizens can get their visa appointments on time.
