Weather: Dense fog and severe cold wreak havoc in North India

New Delhi. Before the arrival of the New Year, the weather patterns are becoming harsh from North to East and North-East India. Normal life is being badly affected due to snowfall on the peaks of the Western Himalayas, dense fog in the plains, cold days and cold waves at some places. This pattern of weather is affecting not only traffic but also health. There will be no respite from the changing mood of the weather. Dense fog is expected to persist at night and morning in most areas till the New Year and the effect of cold is expected to increase.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), very dense fog may prevail during night and morning hours in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana till January 1. The effect of fog may persist in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand till December 30, in Bihar till December 27, while in Assam and Meghalaya till December 26. Apart from this, dense fog conditions are likely to persist over some areas of Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar and Odisha till December 30, over Arunachal Pradesh till December 28 and over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal till December 27.

Cold day and cold wave alert
IMD has issued severe cold day alert at some places in eastern Uttar Pradesh on December 26 and 27. There is a possibility of extreme cold in Bihar till 30th December and in Uttarakhand till 28th December. At the same time, cold day conditions may persist in Western Uttar Pradesh on 27th December and in Eastern Uttar Pradesh on 28th December. Cold wave warning has been given in North Rajasthan on 27th December.

Yellow alert of dense fog in the capital Delhi
Despite winter in Delhi-NCR, cold wave conditions have not yet arisen. The minimum temperature remains near normal. Except for three-four days in the beginning of December, till now the minimum temperature has not gone below six degrees. According to the Meteorological Department, there may be moderate level fog on Saturday and Sunday, while dense fog is expected in some areas. For this the department has issued a yellow alert. The sky will remain partly cloudy. There will be no sharp drop in temperature due to clouds, rather the minimum temperature is likely to be between 6-8 degrees on December 27 and between 5-7 degrees on December 28. There may also be a slight increase in the maximum temperature on 30th and 31st December.
