MCG created history in Boxing Day Test, spectators created a unique record in Australia
Record Crowd Of 93,442 at MCG: In the fourth match of the five-match Ashes series being played between Australia and England, the spectators created history at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The Boxing Day Test attracted the highest number of spectators ever on the first day of a Test match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). A total of 93,442 spectators were present at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on the first day of the Test match.
With this, such a large number of spectators broke the record of 93,013 spectators set in the 2015 ODI World Cup final and the record of 91,112 spectators set on the first day of the 2013 Ashes Test. This historic attendance also gave it the distinction of becoming the second largest ever crowd for a single day of Test cricket. MCC chief executive Stuart Fox said huge attendances were expected on the coming second and third days, making it possible to break the Ashes Test total viewership record of 271,865.

Talking about the match, after winning the toss, England decided to bat first on a green pitch which is helpful for bowlers. Amidst rain and clouds, England’s fast bowler Josh Tong played a brilliant innings of 5-45 and bowled Australia out for just 152 runs. Australian batsmen never recovered from the initial shock.

Travis Head, Jake Weatherald and Marnus Labuschagne were out early, while Steve Smith was bowled for only 9 runs. Usman Khawaja (29), Alex Carey (20) and Cameron Green (17) struggled for a while. In the end Michael Neser batted patiently and scored 35 runs. This was the highest score from Australia in this innings. With this inning, Australia was successful in crossing the 150-run mark.
England’s hopes rose
England’s hopes have been raised after bowling brilliantly in this match. Now England will have to bat better and take a lead of some runs. If England is successful in doing this then England can win this match in Melbourne. Now after the bowlers of England, it is the turn of the batsmen to perform well. The England team has already lost the Ashes series. England is behind 3-0 in this series.
