Kohli, now 37, marked his return to India’s premier domestic 50-over tournament after a gap of 15 years, turning out for Delhi. He made an immediate impact, producing a masterclass that underlined his enduring hunger for runs and big occasions. Beyond the runs, Kohli also drew attention off the field, as fans spotted him at the Bengaluru airport following Delhi’s fixtures, eager to catch a glimpse of the modern great before his departure.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s star power, records and roaring crowds

Kohli’s campaign began in emphatic fashion against Andhra Pradesh, where he struck a commanding 131 off 101 balls to anchor a successful chase. During the innings, he went past Sachin Tendulkar to become the fastest batsman to reach 16,000 List A runs, achieving the landmark in just 330 innings. He followed it up with a fluent 77 off 61 balls against Gujarat in Bengaluru, earning the Player of the Match award as Delhi edged out Gujarat by seven runs. The back-to-back performances once again reaffirmed his dominance in one-day cricket and his value to Delhi on the domestic stage.

Rohit Sharma’s stint in the tournament was equally eventful. Leading Mumbai against Sikkim at Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Rohit lit up the venue with a breathtaking 155 off 94 balls. His aggressive strokeplay thrilled a packed crowd and powered Mumbai to a commanding victory.

Rohit’s immense popularity was also on display at Jaipur airport, where he warmly interacted with fans and airport staff, posing for photographs in moments that soon went viral. However, his campaign also witnessed a rare stumble, as he was dismissed for a golden duck against Uttarakhand, falling first ball to Devendra Singh Bora. Despite the early exit, hundreds of fans had arrived at the stadium as early as 6 am, hoping to watch him bat.

Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are next expected to be seen in action during India’s ODI series against New Zealand, scheduled from January 11 to 18, with matches set to be played in Vadodara, Rajkot and Indore.
