Further strategy on MNREGA will be decided in CWC meeting, preparation for nationwide movement under the leadership of Rahul-Sonia!

New Delhi. The Working Committee (CWC), the top policy making body of the Congress, will brainstorm on the subject of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) on Saturday and decide the future strategy. Sources say that Congress may decide on some programs in its working committee meeting to corner the government regarding MNREGA. Congress Parliamentary Party chief Sonia Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Jairam Ramesh and many other senior leaders are likely to attend the meeting chaired by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.

Congress alleges that MNREGA has been abolished through the ‘Developed India-Ji Ram Ji Act’ and removing Mahatma Gandhi’s name from the scheme is an insult to the Father of the Nation. Former party president Sonia Gandhi had said on December 20 that the central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has bulldozed MNREGA and attacked the interests of crores of farmers, laborers and landless rural poor. He also said that the party is committed to fighting against the new “black law”.

After the Ji Ram Ji Bill was passed in the Parliament, Kharge had alleged that not only the name of MNREGA was being changed but the scheme was being “planned murder” and Prime Minister Narendra Modi offering flowers on the statues of Mahatma Gandhi on foreign soil was just a show off. Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi had said that the Ji Ram Ji Act is against the states and villages and a nationwide front will be formed to force the government to withdraw it. Parliament had approved the ‘Developed India-Ji Ram Ji Bill, 2025’ on December 18 amid uproar from the opposition. After the assent of President Draupadi Murmu, this Act has now been enacted. It will replace the 20 year old MNREGA.
