Horrific accident on highway in Japan, one dead, 26 injured
Tokyo. One person was killed and 26 were injured in a horrific accident on an expressway in Japan late Friday night in snowy weather. Gunma Prefecture highway police said Saturday that multiple vehicles collided after two trucks collided in Minakami town on the Kan-Etsu Expressway. Minakami is about 160 kilometers (100 mi) northwest of Tokyo. Police said that a 77-year-old woman from Tokyo died in the accident and the condition of five of the 26 injured is said to be critical. He said that due to the collision of trucks, some part of the expressway was blocked and the vehicles coming from behind could not apply brakes in time due to icy surface and more than 50 vehicles collided with each other. Police said that due to the collision, more than a dozen vehicles caught fire and some vehicles were completely burnt. Police said that the fire could be controlled after about seven hours.
