Tariq Rehman paid tribute after reaching the grave of Osman Hadi, orgy of fundamentalists continues in Bangladesh

New Delhi. Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) acting president and son of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, Tariq Rahman, reached Dhaka University campus today. Here he paid tribute at the grave of Inqilab Manch spokesperson Sharif Usman Hadi. Hadi was shot dead in Dhaka’s Paltan area this month, after which protests have intensified across the country. Leaders of Inqilab Manch have appealed to Tariq Rahman to use political influence to arrest those involved in Hadi’s murder as soon as possible and ensure swift action in the case. The protesters say that the movement will continue until justice is received.

The situation going on in Bangladesh is not a good thing for any democratic country. There was an uproar here ever since Sheikh Hasina left the country. Since Muhammad Yunus took over the interim government, the condition of minorities, especially Hindus, is not hidden from anyone. Meanwhile, Tariq Rehman has also returned after 17 years of exile. Incidents of violent demonstrations, attacks on minorities and mob lynching have been reported in many parts of the country. Recently, the situation has become more tense after the murder of radical student leader Usman Sharif Hadi. The protesters who took to the streets demanding justice for him have indulged in violence, vandalism and arson at many places.

These incidents have posed a big challenge to the interim government led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus. This interim government, which came to power with the support of violent student movements against the Sheikh Hasina government, is now struggling to control the same violence. Maintaining law and order in many cities including the capital Dhaka is proving difficult for the administration. When he imposed complete ban on Awami, it was for his own benefit, but BNP and Khaleda Zia camp seems to be benefiting from it.

On the other hand, the United Nations has expressed concern and urged the interim government to ensure fair elections and protect the rights of voters. Violence against the minority Hindu community and two mob lynching incidents have also sparked reaction in India, where protests have been seen in many places. Hindus living here say that while the return of Tariq Rahman has given new energy to BNP, the situation is going to create more trouble for them.

Inqilab Manch has announced yesterday that its siege and dharna program at Shahbagh intersection will continue until the culprits of the murder of Sharif Usman Hadi are brought to justice. Announcing the event, Abdullah Al Jaber, member secretary of the forum, said the state had completely failed to ensure justice in the case of Hadi’s murder. He said that we have shown a lot of restraint. Does the state care about us? What has been done so far to give us justice?
