40 Percent Of The Population In Assam Is Bangladeshi Muslim Himanta Says The 2027 Census Will Reveal The Truth
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed during an event that 40 percent of the state’s total population are Bangladeshi Muslims. He said that this will also become clear from the census to be held in the year 2027.
Addressing an event in Guwahati Making a shocking claim about the demography of the state, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said, ‘The census of 2027 will reveal that 40 percent of the total population living in Assam is of Bangladeshi Muslims.’
CM Sarma said, ‘According to the 2011 census, there was 34 percent Muslim population in the state, if we say that 3 percent were Assamese Muslims, then the population of Muslims of Bangladeshi origin was about 34 percent. No census was held in 2021. When the census is conducted in 2027, the population of Muslims of Bangladeshi origin will be close to 40 percent.
CM Himanta Biswa Sarma had recently said the same thing during a media event and said that Assam is sitting on a powder keg, where the population of people of Bangladeshi origin has reached 40 percent. Sarma said that the worrying thing is that these people have now got legality in India. The basic identity of the state is in danger. He said that this could be a matter of concern for the security of not only Assam but the entire country.
This statement of the Chief Minister of Assam has come at a time when his government has adopted a policy of taking direct action without any compromise against illegal immigrants in the state. The Chief Minister said that all Deputy Commissioners have been directed to take action against illegal immigrants and those declared foreigners by tribunals and expel them.
Enforcement agencies including police and Border Security Force (BSF) will take necessary action to extradite them to Bangladesh. The Immigrants (Expulsion from Assam) Act, 1950, empowers the state government to expel illegal immigrants whose continued residence is considered ‘detrimental to the interests of the general public’. This law provides the legal framework for identification and removal through administrative orders.
