Recently, Women’s T20I cricket has experienced a significant surge in the quality of bowling. The wicket-taking has been the primary factor in the success of T20Is, from seasoned players to young talents rewriting the records.

It’s time to see which cricketers have taken the most wickets in Women’s T20Is while Deepti Sharma marked her name in one of the most successful tally of Women’s cricket.

3) Sophie Ecclestone – 142 wickets

Sophie Ecclestone has been a potent force in the bowling department and the left-arm spinner has claimed 142 wickets in 101 Women’s T20Is with an average of 15.73 and an economy rate of 5.96, which speaks volumes about her ability to cut off runs while regularly taking wickets.

Her 4/18 is a classic case of her having a match-winning impact when she made her debut as a young girl and soon after reached the top of the T20I bowlers ranking at the age of just 20.

2) Nida Dar and Henriette Ishime – 144 wickets

Nida Dar has been the backbone of Pakistani women’s cricket and one of the most consistent players throughout Women’s T20I history. She has taken 144 wickets in 160 T20I matches with an average of 20.20 and a remarkable economy rate of 5.70. Histories were created when Dar was the first-ever Pakistan player, whether male or female, to cross the 100 T20I wickets mark; she is still the most-capped T20I cricketer in the country.

Henriette Ishimwe who is the second player among the two has excelled as one of the most exciting fast-bowling prospects in Women’s T20I cricket, setting records for Rwanda at a very young age. She has claimed 144 wickets from 117 matches in her 117 Women’s T20I career at a stunning average of 10.33 and an economy rate of 4.31. Also, Ishimwe got international recognition when she took four wickets in four balls against Zimbabwe in 2023 and holds the record for the most WT20I wickets at a single ground.

1) Megan Schutt and Deepti Sharma – 151 wickets

Megan Schutt has always been an Australia’s most dependable strike bowler and in 123 Women’s T20Is she has taken 151 wickets from 123 matches with an average of 17.70 and an economy rate of 6.40. She was the leading wicket-taker in the 2013 Women’s World Cup and in 2020 T20 World Cup she took 13 wickets which included four in the final against India.

Megan together with Deepti Sharma leads the Women’s T20I wicket-takers chart, the latter being one of India’s most versatile all-rounders. In 131 Women’s T20Is, her tally of 151 wickets came from 128 innings at an average of 18.73 with a quite economical rate of 6.09. In the ongoing Sri Lanka women’s tour of India, Deepti Sharma’s wicket tally was three while that of Renuka Singh Thakur was four, which together helped restrict Sri Lanka to a mere 112 runs.
