Grief in the cricket world before the match in Sylhet, coach of Dhaka Capitals is no more

The cricket world was plunged into mourning when Dhaka Capitals team’s assistant coach Mahboob Ali Zaki died suddenly before a match of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). This incident happened just minutes before the third match of BPL 2026. According to the report, he probably suffered a heart attack, due to which he died.

Bangladesh Cricket Board confirmed the incident

Confirming the tragic incident, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said on social media that Mehboob Ali Zaki died at around 1:00 pm in Sylhet at the age of 59. The board said that Zaki has made immense contribution to the development of fast bowling and Bangladesh cricket. His experience and dedication will always be remembered with respect and gratitude. The Board has expressed its condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and the cricket community in this hour of loss.

BPL 2026 started from December 26, but this sad news came out the very next day. Mehboob Ali Zaki was preparing his team before the match, when suddenly he collapsed on the field. As soon as he fell, the team and staff immediately gave him CPR, but his life could not be saved. He was immediately taken to the hospital via ambulance, where he was declared dead.

At this time Dhaka Capitals and the entire BPL fraternity is in mourning. Mehboob Ali Zaki was not only an efficient coach but also an inspirational personality for Bangladesh cricket. Under his guidance, many young players improved their abilities and the team got stronger. His demise has dealt a big blow not only to the Dhaka Capitals team but to the entire Bangladesh cricket.

Dhaka Capitals were to face Rajshahi Warriors in the third league match of BPL 2026. This incident happened during the preparations for the match, which shocked all the players and cricket lovers. This sadness, which came amidst this celebration of sports, left the entire tournament in mourning.
