The train disappeared in the blink of an eye! Stormy speed of 0-700 km/hr in 2 seconds… China’s Hyperloop broke the land speed record

China has once again surprised the world in the field of high speed transport technology. The research team of China’s National University of Defense Technology (NUDT) has set a new world record in superconducting maglev technology. In this test, a test vehicle weighing 1 ton was accelerated from 0 to 700 kmph in just 2 seconds. At this speed it will take less than 1.5 hours to reach Patna from Delhi.

This was not a passenger train, but a train-like sled was used, which has been specially designed for research and testing. This experiment was conducted on a 400 meter long maglev track and after such tremendous speed, the vehicle was stopped safely, which made this achievement even more special.

Why is this maglev record special?

The acceleration achieved in this test was approximately 97 meters per second squared, which is equivalent to approximately 9.9g force. A human being cannot bear this much force. Even fighter pilots take about 9g training and that too for a very short period of time. What makes this record special is the superconducting electric maglev technology, in which the vehicle is levitated in the air above the track through magnets. Due to this, friction is almost eliminated and extremely fast acceleration is possible. This is the reason why the vehicle appeared like a blur in the CCTV footage during the test.

Which technology was used?

In this experiment, superconducting magnets were used, which work at ultra high power levels. Both levitation and propulsion were controlled by magnetic forces, due to which there was no mechanical contact between the track and the vehicle. This technology makes it completely different from traditional high speed trains. According to NUDT Professor Li Jie, this achievement will open new avenues for both ultra high speed maglev and space technology.

What could be the impact in future?

The biggest impact of this technology can be on the future transport system. A vacuum tube maglev system, combined with a hyperloop-like concept, may make it possible to achieve speeds of more than 1,000 kmph. Apart from this, it can also be used in aerospace and space sector. It can play a big role in rocket launch assist system, high speed testing and ground launch technology of space vehicles.

Reports and confirmations

There is no doubt about this record. Along with Chinese state media CGTN and CCTV, international media organizations like South China Morning Post, Global Times and Interesting Engineering have also reported on this. The footage of the test has also been made public. Although it is not a commercial passenger train yet, it is being considered a major breakthrough at the technology level. China once again seems to be taking the lead in the race for high speed transport.
