This new facility will enable taxpayers to directly apply online for rectification against certain income tax orders. Earlier, this process was lengthy and cumbersome, requiring a manual application or a request through an Assessing Officer (AO).

What feature was added to the e-filing portal?

Taxpayers can now apply for rectification against certain income tax orders on the e-filing portal. Before this feature was introduced, this process was quite long and complicated. Moreover, applications for rectification had to be submitted manually.

Adding this feature, the Income Tax Department said that now correction applications related to TP (Transfer Pricing), DRP (Dispute Resolution Panel) and revision orders will no longer have to be approached before the Tax Assessing Officer (AO). Tax payers can apply directly through e-filing portal.

How to apply

  • First, taxpayers should visit the e-filing portal.
  • Then click on the Services tab
  • Now you will see the modification tab
  • Then, you can apply by clicking on request option of AO seeking correction

What is an amendment order?

Correctional orders are issued by senior Income Tax officers. If an order passed by an Assessing Officer is found to be wrong or contrary to the interest of the Department, it may be modified, varied or set aside.

  • Under Section 263, the Principal Commissioner or the Commissioner can modify an order detrimental to the department
  • Under Section 264, the Commissioner has the power to grant relief to the taxpayer if an order is prejudicial to the taxpayer
