Bihar will get two new medical colleges in the beginning of the new year, the total number will increase to 15.
Bihar Medical College News: There is great news regarding health services and medical education in Bihar. With the beginning of the year 2026, two new government medical colleges are going to be started in the state. After this the total number of medical colleges in Bihar will increase to 15. At present 13 medical colleges are running in 11 districts of the state.
Medical colleges are ready here
According to Health Department officials, new medical colleges and hospitals have been completely ready in Mahua of Vaishali district and Arrah of Bhojpur district. About Rs 500 crore has been spent on the medical college built in Mahua, while the Veer Kunwar Singh Medical College and Hospital in Arrah has cost about Rs 543 crore. The operation of both these institutions will be started from January 2026.
How many beds will be available?
Both the medical colleges will have the facility of 500-500 beds. Along with this, every year 100-100 students will get admission in MBBS here. Separate hostels have been built for the students, while accommodation has also been arranged for doctors and staff. This will provide a better environment for both studies and treatment.
Colleges will operate as per NMC rules
These medical colleges will operate as per the rules of the National Medical Council (NMC). Here patients will get facilities like general medicine, surgery, pediatrics, gynecology and ICU. Apart from this, there will also be complete arrangements for OPD, recruitment, investigation, medicine and operation.
If we talk about the last 10 years, earlier there were only 6 government medical colleges in Bihar. This number has increased to 13 in the last decade and will now increase to 15 in 2026.
Plan to open other medical colleges in the coming 5 years
The Health Department says that in the coming 5 years, there is a plan to open one medical college each in the remaining districts of the state. In Siwan and Begusarai, the construction work has been completed to the extent of 45 to 50 percent, while in districts like Buxar and Madhubani, the work has been completed by 60 to 80 percent. With the opening of these medical colleges, treatment facilities in Bihar will improve and students of the state will not have to go out for medical studies.
