Desk: Sarpanch’s dominance has come to light in Katra police station area of Muzaffarpur district of Bihar. The Inspector, who had come to resolve the fishing dispute, was fatally attacked by the local Sarpanch and his supporters. The sub-inspector was seriously injured in this incident. The injured police officer has been identified as Inspector Shrikant Singh posted at Katra police station. He was immediately admitted to Sri Krishna Medical College Hospital (SKMCH), where he is undergoing treatment.
Angered over names not being taken in the BBMKU convocation, three MLAs left the program, the Governor addressed only the name of Jairam Mahato.
Root of controversy regarding Pokhar tender: This entire matter is related to a pond located in Basant village of Katra block. The current tender of Pokhar is in the name of Jitendra Sahni, a resident of Budhakara village. Earlier this tender was in the name of current Sarpanch of Bandhpura Panchayat Fahad Azam.
Serious allegations against Sarpanch: It is alleged that despite the tender period being over, Sarpanch Fahad Azam and his supporters were stopping the current tender holder Jitendra Sahni from fishing in the pond. Because of this the dispute escalated and Jitendra Sahni lodged a complaint with the police.
The mercury reached 1.7 degrees Celsius in McCluskieganj, Ranchi, schools up to 12th closed till 31 December.
Fierceness on the police who reached the spot: On Friday, Sub-Inspector Shrikant Singh had arrived with the police force to resolve the dispute and maintain law and order. Meanwhile, Sarpanch Fahad Azam and his supporters became angry and started fighting with the police officer. There was chaos in the area after the attack.
Quick action of police and statement of SSP: As soon as the information was received, additional police force from Katra police station reached the spot and controlled the situation. Muzaffarpur SSP Sushil Kumar took a strict stance on the incident and said that those who take the law into their own hands will not be spared. On the basis of video footage, the accused have been identified and an FIR has been registered against them and raids are underway. The matter is being investigated at the DSP level.
