The BCB, where Zaki was working for the last 17 years, paid tribute to the departed soul. “Following his playing career, Mahbub Ali Zaki dedicated himself to coaching and player development. He joined the BCB in 2008 as a High Performance coach and went on to make a significant contribution to the growth of pace bowling in the country through his work.”
Before joining coching, Mahbub Ali Zaki was a pacer and represented Comilla District in the National Cricket Championship and also played for Abahani Limited and Dhanmondi in the Dhaka Premier Division. He was renowned for his wicket-taking abilities, which helped him in his coaching tenure.
He was appointed a high-performance coach by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) in 2008. He was then given the role of Specialist Pace Bowling Coach in the Game Development Department and helped Taskin Ahmed during the T20 World Cup in 2016. Taskin’s bowling action came under the scanner and the ICC told him to work on it.
Zaki worked with him, which allowed the speedster to return to international cricket.
