How was the match?
The fourth test between England and Australia ended in just 2 days. The first Test of this Ashes series also lasted only for 2 days in Perth. At the MCG, England won the toss and bowled first, all out Australia for 152 runs in the first innings. In reply, it too was reduced to 110 runs. Australia got a lead of 42 runs. By the end of the first day’s play, the host team scored 4 runs without any loss in the second innings and increased their lead to 46 runs.
On the second day of the match, England’s bowlers again showed their brilliance and bowled out Australia for 132 runs. In this way the English team got the target of 175 runs. This target was considered difficult considering the pitch of MCG but Jack Crawley (37), Ben Duckett (34) and Jacob Bethel (40) played useful innings to make England’s path easier. When the England team lost the wickets of Root (15) and Stokes (2) after getting close to the target, there was panic in their camp. However, Harry Brook (18 not out) stood at one end and saved the English team. Josh Tong, who took 7 wickets in the match, was awarded the Player of the Match award.
