Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emerged as the leader of India who has been awarded the highest national honors from most countries. During his tenure of 11 years, a remarkable change has been seen in the global image of India. Today India has established itself as an influential power not only economically and strategically but also on the diplomatic platform.
Its direct impact is visible in the global acceptance of the Indian passport and India’s increasing role in international politics.
In the latest episode, Prime Minister Modi was honored with the highest civilian honor during his two-day visit to Ethiopia. However, this is not the first time that a country has honored him with such an honour. Till now PM Modi has been honored with the highest honors in 28 countries.
This honor journey started in 2016 from Saudi Arabia, where he was awarded the ‘Order of King Abdulaziz’. In the same year, Afghanistan also honored him with the ‘Order of Amanullah Khan’.
After this, countries like Palestine in 2018, Maldives, Bahrain and United Arab Emirates in 2019 honored Prime Minister Modi with their highest civilian honours. In 2020, the US awarded him the ‘Legion of Merit’, while in 2021, Bhutan announced he would be awarded the ‘Order of the Druk Gyalpo’, to be conferred in 2024.
The period of 2023 and 2024 was also special for Prime Minister Modi, when countries like Greece, France, Egypt, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Russia, Kuwait, Guyana, Barbados, Nigeria and Dominica gave him the highest honours. This trend further intensified in 2025. Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Cyprus, Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Brazil, Namibia and now Ethiopia honored Prime Minister Modi with their respective highest civilian honours.
According to experts, these honors reflect not just individual achievements, but India’s growing global credibility, active foreign policy and role of ‘Vishwa Bandhu’. This Samman Yatra of PM Modi presents a new picture of India’s diplomatic influence and global leadership.
