Delhi’s wind changed its mood! Big relief from suffocating ‘gas chamber’, AQI came from ‘severe’ to ‘poor’ – ..
This morning has brought some fresh air and a big relief for the people of Delhi who have been forced to breathe poisonous air for the last few weeks. For the third consecutive day, there has been a tremendous improvement in the air quality of the national capital, and the AQI has dropped from ‘severe’ category to ‘poor’ category.
Delhi’s average air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 234 on Friday morning. This is a huge improvement from Tuesday’s dreadful 412 AQI, when it seemed as if the entire city had become a ‘gas chamber’.
The air in many areas of the city became ‘breathable’
The effect of this reform is clearly visible in many areas of Delhi.
- The air at 10 out of 40 monitoring stations has fallen into the ‘moderate’ category, which means the air at these places is much cleaner than before. People heaved a sigh of relief even in posh areas like Lodhi Road, IIT-Delhi and Airport.
- However, the air at 27 stations still remains in ‘poor’ category.
- What is a matter of concern is that the air quality is still ‘very poor’ in areas like Jahangirpuri and Bawana, with the AQI crossing 300.
What does the AQI meter say?
- 0-50: good
- 101-200: moderate
- 201-300: bad
- 301-400: very bad
- 401-500: Critical (dangerous)
So how did this miracle happen suddenly?
This improvement in Delhi’s air is not due to any magic, but due to the kindness of strong winds. According to the Meteorological Department, winds blew at a speed of 10 kilometers per hour in Delhi on Thursday, which also carried away the ‘poison’ of pollution.
Who is Delhi’s biggest enemy?
A report has also revealed who has the biggest role in making Delhi’s air poisonous:
- Vehicle smoke: 18.5%
- Nearby factories: 9.5%
- Construction work: 2.5%
- Garbage burning: 1.6%
But is this relief an illusion?
Unfortunately, experts believe that this relief will not last long. According to the weather forecast, the wind speed will reduce again in the coming days, and the pollution level may increase to the ‘very poor’ category.
Therefore, enjoy this relief, but do not forget that the threat of pollution is not over yet.
