Vaibhav Suryavanshi named India U-19 captain for South Africa One-Day series
Teen sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi was on Saturday named captain of the India Under-19 squad that will travel to South Africa ahead of the ICC men’s U-19 World Cup in Zimbabwe and Namibia. This will be the first time Suryavanshi dons the captain’s hat in professional cricket.
The said move from the Junior Cricket Committee comes after regular skipper Ayush Mhatre sustained a wrist injury, according to a statement published by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
“The duo (Mhatre and batter Vihaan Malhotra) will report to the BCCI Centre of Excellence for further management of their injuries and will join the team for the ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup,” the announcement read.
The World Cup, which begins January 15, will be preceded by a three-match One-Day series against SA in Benoni. All the games will take place at Willowmoore Park. The fixtures are scheduled to take place on January 3, 5, and 7.
