Leave Delhi, make Bengaluru the capital of the country! Video went viral and debate broke out on social media
New Delhi: The suggestion of a girl from Delhi has sparked a debate on social media whether the time has come to change the national capital of India. This debate started when Simridhi Makhija, who recently shifted from Delhi to Bengaluru, said in a video that Bengaluru should be made the national capital of India instead of Delhi. His statement went viral in no time and brought issues like air pollution, women’s safety and quality of urban life back into the spotlight.
Controversy started from Instagram video
Simridhi Makhija shared this video on Instagram, in which she told that she has been living in Bengaluru for more than two months. Recently, when she returned to Delhi to meet her parents, the differences between the two cities forced her to think deeply. Describing herself as a “Delhi girl” in the caption of the video, she said that now she clearly feels that the quality of life is better in Bengaluru.
Pollution became the biggest question
Makhija’s biggest concern was about the air quality of Delhi. He said that in recent weeks, Delhi’s pollution has increased so much that normal life becomes difficult. Sharing his experience, he described living in Delhi as like a gas chamber and raised the question why the country’s capital is in such a bad environmental condition. His argument was that a city which the world sees as the face of India, should have clean air and basic facilities for a better life.

Emphasis on women’s safety
The issue of security was also an important part of his video. According to Makhija, the environment for women in Bengaluru feels relatively safe. He said that he does not find it uncomfortable to walk alone after meeting a friend at around 10 pm. According to him, the constant fear regarding women’s safety that is felt in Delhi is not as prevalent in Bengaluru. This is the reason why they consider this city better for living.
Urban infrastructure and walking facilities
Makhija also compared urban infrastructure. He said that the roads and public places of Bengaluru are more pedestrian-friendly. He raised the question why foreign tourists coming to India should face polluted air, traffic and untidy footpaths. According to him, if the status of capital gets given to a city where the standard of living is better, then India’s global image will also be strengthened.
Opinion divided on social media
People’s reactions to this video were mixed. Some users agreed with Makhija and expressed concern about pollution and safety in Delhi. At the same time, many people countered that Bengaluru also has its own serious problems, like traffic jams, water shortage and rapidly increasing urban pressure. Some also reminded that not only the standard of living but also historical, political and administrative aspects play an important role in deciding the capital.
The beginning of an important debate
Even though this suggestion may not seem practical, Simridhi Makhija’s video definitely leaves an important question. This debate has forced one to think about what priorities should be addressed to make Indian cities cleaner, safer and livable. Whether the capital changes or not, this discussion clearly highlights the challenges and possibilities of urban India.
