England has defeated Australia for the first time in the Boxing Day Test. England has got its first win in Australia since 2011. The Boxing Day Test being played in Melbourne ended in just two days. This is the second time in this series when the Test match ended so quickly.
England won the toss and decided to bowl first. Batting first, the England team could score only 152 runs. In reply, the England team was out for 110 runs in the first innings. Australia got a lead of 42 runs on the basis of first innings. Whereas England bowled brilliantly in the second innings and bowled out Australia for 132 runs. England got a target of 175 runs to win. For England, Josh Tongue took 5 wickets, Gus Atkinson took 2 wickets, and Brayden Carse and Ben Stokes took 1-1 wicket. England had scored 110 runs in their first innings. Harry Brook scored 41, Gus Atkinson scored 28 and captain Ben Stokes scored 16 runs. On the basis of first innings, England trailed Australia by 42 runs. For Australia, Michael Neser took 4 wickets, Scott Boland took 3 wickets, Mitchell Starc took 2 wickets, and Cameron Green took 1 wicket.
Australia was limited to 132 runs in the second innings.
Australia’s batting was very poor in the second innings. Australia started the day with 4 runs without any loss. Scott Boland was out on the score of 22 as the first wicket. Boland was out after scoring 6 runs. After this, wickets fell at regular intervals and the entire team was reduced to 132 runs. Travis Head scored 46, Steve Smith scored 24 and Cameron Green scored 19 runs. Jack Crawley and Ben Duckett gave a strong start of 51 runs to England to achieve the target of 175 runs for victory. Duckett was out after scoring 34 runs on 26 balls. Crawley scored 37 runs. Apart from both the openers, Jacob Bethel made the team’s first win in the series possible by playing an inning of 40 runs. Harry Brook remained unbeaten on 18 and Jamie Smith scored 3 runs. England won the match by scoring 178 runs at the loss of 6 wickets.
