BPL 2025-26: During the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2025-26, the cricket world was plunged into mourning when a heart-wrenching incident took place on the field before a match. During pre-match preparations before the match to be played at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, an important face associated with Dhaka Capitals suddenly collapsed on the field.

The incident happened shortly before Dhaka Capitals’ first match against Rajshahi Royals. The players, support staff and spectators present on the field were stunned when the situation became serious and the medical team had to intervene immediately.

Dhaka Capitals’ assistant coach Mahboob Ali Zaki suddenly suffered a heart attack during the practice session, after which he collapsed on the field. Realizing the situation, the medical staff immediately started giving him CPR without any delay. After this, Zaki was taken to the nearest hospital via ambulance, where he was admitted to the ICU.

BPL 2025-26: Life not saved despite CPR and treatment

In the initial statement from the franchise, it was said that the condition of Mehboob Ali Zaki is critical and his treatment is going on under the supervision of doctors. However, despite all efforts, sad news came out from the hospital after some time. Dhaka Capitals confirmed via social media that Mahboob Ali Zaki has passed away.

The official post issued by Dhaka Capitals read, “It is with great sadness that we have to inform that the beloved assistant coach of the Dhaka Capitals family, Mehboob Ali Zaki, has passed away due to heart disease. This is an irreparable loss for us. May his soul rest in peace and may the family have the strength to bear this loss.” After this post, condolence messages started coming continuously from the cricket world.

Mehboob Ali Zaki was associated with Bangladesh cricket for a long time and was recognized as a mentor to many young players. He was also a part of the coaching staff that played an important role in Bangladesh winning the ICC Under-19 World Cup in 2020. This is also Bangladesh cricket’s first and so far only ICC trophy. Not only Dhaka Capitals but the entire Bangladeshi cricket is in deep shock due to his sudden demise.
