Delhi Motor Accident Claim Tribunal orders compensation of Rs 1.26 crore to the families of the deceased in 2023 road accident
The Delhi Motor Accident Claims Tribunal has ordered a compensation of Rs 1.26 crore to the family of a person who died in a road accident in 2023. The accident occurred due to a sudden lane change by a DTC bus. Delhi Motor Accident Claims Tribunal has ordered a compensation of Rs 1.26 crore to the family of Manish Kumar Chaudhary, who died in a road accident near Rohini East Metro station in October 2023. Tribunal Chairman Vikram gave this decision after hearing the petition filed by the relatives of the deceased. The victim’s family had demanded compensation for the death caused in the accident.
The tribunal, in its order issued on December 22, said the accident was caused by the negligence and speeding of DTC bus driver Sanjay. The accident occurred on October 18, 2023, at around 1 pm, on Rithala Road below Rohini East Metro Station, when Manish Kumar Choudhary was driving his motorcycle.
It is alleged that the DTC bus suddenly changed lanes, due to which Manish Kumar Choudhary’s motorcycle collided with the rear of the bus. He was immediately taken to the hospital, where he was declared dead. The tribunal, relying on CCTV footage, found that the bus had suddenly changed lanes. The driver claimed that the motorcycle was trying to overtake the bus, but the tribunal rejected this argument, saying that the footage clearly proved the negligence of the bus driver.
The tribunal found that the deceased Manish Kumar Chaudhary was working as an assistant floor manager in a private company. All three petitioners including their mother and sister were dependent on the deceased. The tribunal ordered a total compensation of Rs 1.26 crore under various heads and directed the insurance company New India Assurance Company Limited to deposit this compensation.
