Situation worsens due to suffocating air in Delhi, AQI reaches severe category, crosses 400

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has recorded a huge decline in the Air Quality Index (AQI) in the national capital on Saturday evening. This has been considered in the ‘serious’ category. Here AQI reached 390. Even worse air quality was recorded in many areas of Delhi-NCR. The AQI level here remained above 400. AQI was recorded at 431 in Patparganj, while it was 400 in Shivaji Park. The highest AQI of 442 was recorded in Nehru Nagar. 429 were recorded in Shadipur, 402 in Sirifort and 412 in RK Puram. This shows the serious pollution situation in the entire area.

havoc of dense fog and mist

Earlier on Saturday morning, Delhi’s air quality had worsened further. With the Air Quality Index (AQI) exceeding 300 in many areas, it had reached the ‘very poor’ category. Due to dense fog and mist, pollutants get trapped. This reduces visibility and disrupts daily life.

Restrictions on construction and industrial activities

Measures like ‘No PUC, No Fuel’ have been implemented to curb pollution levels. The Air Quality Management Commission has implemented the third phase of measures. These include restrictions on construction and industrial activities. Due to the current weather, this cycle of poor air quality is likely to continue. Due to this, constant monitoring is being done.

‘Very poor’ air quality

Strict measures to control pollution are being demanded. Due to ‘very poor’ air quality, people especially sensitive groups (children, elderly, people with respiratory problems) should avoid staying outside for long periods. Must wear a mask. Earlier, the Delhi Cabinet led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta approved several important decisions to strengthen the fight against pollution and improve environmental governance in the capital. The Cabinet approved allocation of Rs 100 crore for the revitalization of water bodies under Delhi government.
