This digital armor will ease the path of cancer patients, supportive care will be available at home through the app…

New Delhi:- For patients suffering from serious diseases like cancer, trips to the hospital and running to the doctor for every minor problem can now be a thing of the past. AIIMS Bhopal has introduced a modern digital model of ‘App-based Supportive Care’ for lung cancer patients. Through this technology, patients will be able to monitor their health while sitting at home and will be able to get expert advice on time.

Dr. Akanksha Chaudhary, Assistant Professor, Department of Medical Oncology and Hematology, AIIMS Bhopal, said that supportive care of cancer patients can be improved through a special mobile application. This app will prove helpful to patients in monitoring their medication timings, side effects and providing emotional support. Citing successful research conducted at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, he has expressed the need to adopt such apps in India also.
Due to the digital platform, the communication gap between the doctor and the patient will be reduced, which will lead to positive improvement in treatment outcomes. AIIMS’s digital mantra resonates on the national stage. This innovation was highlighted in the Year and Review in Lung Cancer national conference organized by Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. Experts from institutes like AIIMS Delhi, Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Medanta participated in this three-day event which ran from 19 to 21 December.

Dr. Akanksha Chaudhary, playing the role of faculty and panelist in the conference, said that AIIMS Bhopal is not only providing facilities like chemotherapy and immunotherapy, but is also now focusing on “personalized care” through technology. Advanced treatments like Next Generation Sequencing and Targeted Therapy are currently available in the Medical Oncology Unit of AIIMS.
