Horrific bus accident on Inter-American Highway, 15 people died, 19 injured after falling into ditch

Guatemala. At least 15 people were killed and 19 others were injured in a tragic road accident on Saturday on the Inter-American Highway in the western part of Guatemala. According to officials, a passenger bus lost control and fell into a deep gorge, causing chaos at the spot.

Local fire department spokesman Leandro Amado said the dead included 11 men, three women and a minor. After the accident, the relief and rescue team admitted the injured to nearby hospitals, where the condition of many is said to be critical.

The accident occurred between kilometers 172 and 174 in Solola department. This area is known for dense fog, which reduces visibility and increases the risk of accidents. According to preliminary information, poor visibility and road conditions could have been the cause of the accident.

In pictures shared by the fire brigade, the bus can be seen in a damaged state in a ditch, while rescue workers were seen trying to pull out the passengers. The administration has started investigating the incident and the exact reasons for the accident are being ascertained.
