What happened to Ayush Mhatre? Vaibhav Suryavanshi becomes captain before Under-19 World Cup
The Under-19 World Cup, being jointly hosted by Zimbabwe and Namibia, will start from January 15 next year. Before this tournament, a 3-match youth ODI series will be played between the under-19 teams of India and South Africa. The first match of the series will be held on 3 January, the second on 5 January and the third on 7 January. All matches will be played in Benoni.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has given the captaincy of the Indian Under-19 team to young star Vaibhav Suryavanshi for the South Africa tour. Till now 14 year old Vaibhav was playing youth cricket under the captaincy of Ayush Mhatre. Now he will be seen leading Team India.

How did Vaibhav become captain?
Indian Under-19 team captain Ayush Mhatre and vice-captain Vihaan Malhotra both are injured. In such a situation, Vaibhav has been made the captain for the Youth ODI series against South Africa. Ayush and Vihaan have suffered wrist injuries. He will go to BCCI’s Center of Excellence (CoE) to get his injury cured and then join the team for the Under-19 World Cup.
The captaincy of the Indian team, which was announced for the Under-19 World Cup on Saturday (27 December), is in the hands of Ayush, while Vihaan is his deputy. Ayush and Vihaan are just out of South Africa tour. Yuvraj Gohil and Rahul Kumar have been selected in place of Ayush-Vihaan for the South Africa series.
