Lord Ram And Lord Shiv Fight: Through Ramayana and Ramcharitmanas, we all are familiar with the ideal, dignity and religious life of Lord Rama. But very few people know that there was an incident in the life of Lord Rama, when he had to fight with his idol Lord Shiva. This story is as interesting as it is mysterious and message-ful.
This incident is related to Ashwamedha Yagya
According to religious texts, after killing Ravana, Lord Rama organized Ashwamedha Yagya. Wherever the horse released in this yagya went, the kings there accepted the subordination of Lord Rama. In this sequence, the horse of the yagya reached a state called Devpur, where King Veermani ruled. King Veermani was a great devotee of Lord Shiva and through rigorous penance he had received a boon from Shiva that Mahadev himself would protect his kingdom.
Yagya’s horse became the cause of war
When the horse reached Devpur, Rukmangdan, son of King Veermani, took him captive. This was a direct challenge to Ashwamedha Yagya. In such a situation, war became inevitable. Seeing the distress of his devotee, Lord Shiva sent his gang including Nandi, Bhrungi and Veerbhadra for war. On one side was Lord Ram’s army and on the other side was Lord Shiva’s army.
Tension increased in war
During the war, Veerbhadra killed Ramsena’s brave Pushkal, while Bhringi captured Shatrughan. When even Hanuman ji started getting worried due to Nandi’s Shivastra, then he remembered Lord Rama. Hearing the call of his devotees, Lord Rama reached the battlefield along with Lakshman and Bharat and started defeating Shiva.
When Ram and Shiva came face to face
When Lord Shiva saw that his men were being defeated, he himself entered into battle. After this there was a fierce war between Lord Rama and Lord Shiva. Finally Lord Rama took out Pashupatastra and said, “O Mahadev, this is the same weapon which you yourself had blessed me with.” Lord Shiva was pleased to hear this. As soon as the weapon touched Shiva’s heart, he stopped the war and asked Shri Ram to seek a boon.
Amazing example of compassion and religion
Lord Rama prayed for a boon to give life to the heroes killed in the war. Lord Shiva said “Amen&8221; By saying this he brought everyone back to life. After this, King Veeramani returned the sacrificial horse and the Ashwamedha Yagya was completed.
