15 people killed when bus falls into ditch on Inter-American Highway in western Guatemala
New Delhi 28 December: Guatemala Bus Accident 15 people were killed and 19 were injured when a bus fell into a ditch on the Inter-American Highway in western Guatemala. Officials said that the dead in this accident include 11 men, three women and one child. The accident took place in Solola division amid thick smog and poor visibility.

A passenger bus jam-packed with passengers broke the railing and fell straight into a deep ditch, causing a horrific accident. At least 15 people have died tragically in this accident, while more than 19 people have been seriously injured. When the police got information about this accident, they reached the spot along with the police convoy and took up the rescue operation in full swing.
It is noteworthy that as soon as the accident was known, local firefighters and rescue teams rushed to the spot. Local fire brigade spokesperson Leandro Amado said, “15 people have lost their lives on the spot in this tragic accident, which includes 11 men, 3 women and an innocent child. After a lot of effort, rescue workers pulled out 19 injured passengers from the bus and shifted them to a nearby hospital for treatment.
This accident occurred in the Solol Department of Guatemala in the area between 172 and 174 kilometers of the highway. This area is infamous for its geographical location and thick smog. According to officials, prima facie it appears that the driver may have lost control of the bus due to very low visibility in the early morning.
It is noteworthy that there has been an alarming increase in the number of road accidents in Guatemala this year. Even in February 2025, more than 50 people lost their lives in a horrific bus accident near Guatemala City. Presently the police is also investigating whether there was any mechanical fault in today’s accident.
