Punjab government suspends senior Vigilance Bureau officer Lakhbir Singh on serious charges
Punjab News: Taking strict action against a senior officer of the Vigilance Bureau, the Punjab government has suspended him. According to the government order issued on December 26, Senior Superintendent of Police Lakhbir Singh (PPS), Vigilance Bureau, posted in Amritsar, has been suspended with immediate effect on charges of serious misconduct and dereliction of duty.
According to the government order, this action has been taken under Rule 4 (1) (a) of the Punjab Civil Services (Punishment and Appeal) Rules, 1970. It has been said in the order that the allegations against Lakhbir Singh are serious, hence he has been removed from his post and suspended. However, the order does not specify what wrongdoing he had done.
Lakhbir Singh suspended after complaint
A government statement said that an internal complaint was received from within the department against Lakhbir Singh. After receiving the complaint, a preliminary investigation was conducted and when the allegations were found serious, disciplinary action was initiated, under which he was suspended.
According to the government statement, Lakhbir Singh is accused of unauthorized interference in matters outside his official jurisdiction. It has been said that such activities are not only a violation of service rules, but also raise questions on the functioning and impartiality of the department. For this reason the government has adopted a tough stance.
